Assault Rifle Type VHS cal. 5,56x45mm
I. Description and Application
Assault Rifle Type VHS, is designed, constructed and produced completely
in Croatia. It is manufactured in two sub-types: VHS-D which represents
the longer version and VHS-K which is the shorter version. Assault Rifle
Type VHS use standard NATO cal.5,56x45mm cartridges.
Assault Rifle Type VHS is designed and constructed strictly for military
and police use, with it's employment against enemy live force and light
armoured vehicles. The configuration of VHS Rifle use Bull pup principle
in which the action and magazine are located behind the trigger and
alongside the shooter's face, so there is no wasted space for the butt
stock as in conventional designs. This permits a shorter firearm length
for the same barrel length. Result is saving weight of the weapon and
increasing manoeuvrability of the soldier. Such increased
manoeuvrability becomes important in confined spaces, during transport,
during combat in urban environments etc. In comparison with other
assault rifles Assault Rifle Type VHS is up to 25% shorter in length,
while at the same time it’s efficiency by muzzle velocity is 10% higher.
The small total mass of Assault Rifle Type VHS is also significant as it
is one of the lightest assault rifles today.
II. Accessories
Assault Rifle Type VHS use standard NATO cartridge magazines for 30 and
for 20 rounds, manufactured in black transparent polymer what enables
permanent visual control of the cartridge resources.
Assault Rifle Type VHS has standard mechanical sight integrated within
upper rifle handle.
By adequate Picatinny rails the Assault Rifle Type VHS may be equipped
with various optical and opto-electronic/laser sighting devices, flash
lights etc.
Assault Rifle Type VHS is equipped with rifle grenade barrel extension
and sight which both enables use of NATO standard rifle grenades.
An Under-barrel Grenade Launcher of standard NATO cal. 40mm use is
enabled with the Assault Rifle Type VHS. Under-barrel Grenade Launcher
substitutes the front grip and becomes integrated part of the assault
rifle. It uses the sight which is already integrated within standard
rifle sight.
For close hand-to-hand combat Assault Rifle Type VHS may be equipped by
multipurpose knife, which mounted on the rifle becomes a bayonet, and
combined with knife case derivates into barbed wire scissors.
With use of special blank ammunition muzzle adapter unlimited use of
blank ammunition is possible maintaining main and standard
characteristics of the rifle.
Detachable bi-pod may be added to the Assault Rifle Type VHS in order to
increase rifle stability while firing.
III. Functioning Principles, Use and Handling
Assault Rifle Type VHS fires in automatic mode and semi-automatic mode.
Rifle automatic works on gas returning principle through the channel in
the barrel's wall. There is 3-position regulator of the returning gases.
Reloading handle is placed over the barrel box. When the gun is fired
reloading handle stays stable. The best shooting results are achieved by
semi-automatic or automatic fire at distances up-to 400m with use of
standard NATO cartridges of cal.5,56x45mm.
IV. Safety Features
Safety lever is fire mode selector at the same time, it is integrated
within trigger guard to be as much protected as it could be, it has 3
positions for locked, automatic and semi-automatic.
